Moisture and special boards
Chapters
In short
- 01The sink unit, the cabinet next to the dishwasher, the bathroom and the edges of worktop cut-outs take the most moisture.
- 02Moisture-resistant particleboard and MDF cope with moisture better than standard boards, but they are not waterproof. Their edges still get edge tape or sealant.
- 03Compact laminate is a hard board made of layers of paper and resin. It is waterproof and used for worktops, bathrooms and partitions.
- 04HPL is a thin, hard laminate glued onto a board. It is more resistant to knocks and scratches than a melamine surface.
- 05Acrylic and high gloss fronts look great, but they scratch more easily. Their protective film stays on until fitting is finished.
- 06At the sink and the dishwasher the way it is built helps too. The sink cut-out is sealed, and a steam protection strip is stuck under the worktop above the dishwasher.
